16 Best Fall Festivities in the Washington DC Area

The end of September kicks off the beginning of our favorite fall festivities – the time is ripe for hayrides, corn mazes, apple cider, and, of course, pumpkin patches! These events are full of family-friendly activities, and we’ve got the scoop on some of the best ones! Whether you like to celebrate apples, pumpkins, beer and wine, or the rich cultural diversity of our region, it’s a great time to get out and enjoy the crisp fall days.

MARYLAND

 

Montpelier Farms Fall Festival

Montpelier Farms Fall Festival is the epitome of a family fun park, complete with activities for every age including a 7-acre corn maze, roping range, slides, pumpkin bowling, and more! For a small additional fee, you can also partake in some pumpkin chunkin’ or make your own scarecrow. After a day of fun, be sure to stick around through the evening and relax by the bonfire.

 

Butler’s Orchard

Butler’s Orchard Pumpkin Festival is full of fun for the whole family! More information is to come, but traditionally this 300 acre orchard includes hay and pumpkin coach rides, corn mazes, giant slides, bon fire sites, corn hole, and more – all included with admission. Fall goodies such as apple cider donuts, kettle corn, and pit beef are available for purchase. This family farm produces over 25 varieties of plants and produce, so don’t forget to stop by the Farm Market!

 

Summers Farm Fall Fun

The live entertainment at Summers Farm is possibly the highlight of the fall with everything from pig races to Tim Hall the Magician, and rounding out a few nights with a great fireworks display – new for 2018! Make your way through the aMAZEing cornfield and explore more than 45 attractions, you can even rent your own campfire site.

Petting farm and pumpkin patch – is there anything more perfect for fall? On weekends through October, top off your day of farm fun with a slice from Pizza Crust or a scoop from Sprinkled Cow!

 

Rock Hill Orchard

For those looking for a little something different, Rock Hill Orchard is celebrating fall with some pumpkin chunkin’. You’ll also find Apple picking, corn maze, hayrides, creamery, and more!

Head out for fall fun days through November 3rd to enjoy a variety of fall festivities including hayrides, harvest your own pumpkins, apples, and sunflowers. Don’t forget to try winding your way through the 2020 Maryland Maize corn maze!

For all those Potterheads and pumpkin heads out there, the Harry Potter themed 8 acre corn maze is the perfect fall activity for you – costumes are highly encouraged! For others less inclined to run through a maze, there’s a great selection of activities including a bouncepad, hayrides, trivia, pony rides, themed food and drinks, petting zoo, and more! You can even bring your pup November 6-8!

 

WEST VIRGINIA

 

Old McDonalds Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze

Maryland and Virginia aren’t the only places close by to DC for fall festivities, if you can, be sure to take a trip to Old McDonalds Farm (yes it’s true) for a fall day filled with fun. Festivities include hayrides, a corn castle, a 5-acre corn maze, and all the farm animals you can imagine.

 

VIRGINIA

 

Pumpkin Village Fall Fest at Leesburg Animal Park

Now through November 6th, the Leesburg Animal Park is full of fall festivities including giant slides, spooky trail, lawn games, pony rides, Halloween costume contest, fresh pumpkin and apple treats, and live entertainment.

 

Cox Farms Fall Festival

A Centreville, VA classic, the Cox Farms Fall Festival is sure to delight! For 2020, many of the traditional activities are on hold, however, you can still enjoy a self-driven hayride and all the goodies of the farm from the drive-through market, perfect for picnicking!

 

Wayside Farm Fun

With over 120-acres, Wayside Farm is a fantastic stop to add to your fall festival list – from pig races to corn mazes, there’s something for everyone at Wayside Farm.

 

Fall Wine Festival and Sunset Tour

Mount Vernon
October 9-11, 6 – 9 PM

There’s no better way to kick off fall than a sipping wine and watching the sunset from the beautiful estate of George Washington. Enjoy unlimited samples from 20 Virginia wineries all while you relax to live music and serene views along the Potomac River. Share your experience with #mountvernonwinefestival. Alternatively, take part in the Mount Vernon Fall Harvest Festival, October 24-25, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM and enjoy 18th-Century activities and demonstrations.

 

Great County Farms

For something a little different, head out to the Great County Farm for a lesson in cider-making – you can even pick your own apples for some delicious fall treats at home. You’ll also be sure to enjoy the classics like a corn maze, wagon rides, fresh farm food, and 12-acre play area.

 

Hollin Farms

Take a ride out to Delaplane to pick your own fruits and veggies from Hollin Farms and head over to Sky Meadows State Park for a wonderful fall afternoon or evening.

 

Blue Ridge Mountain Maze

As the theme for 2020, you will indeed want to “Get Outside” and wind your way through the Blue Ridge Mountain Maze. You’ll also find a fall festival and night maze – including private campfire rentals, pumpkin chunkin’, farm animals, and kiddie obstacle course, just to name a few.

 

Liberty Mills Farm

Said to be one of the largest corn mazes in the country, you’re sure to have an aMAZEing adventure at Liberty Mills Farm. Don’t get lost in the maze though, you’ll want to be sure to also catch the pumpkin patch, flightlight maze, and of course, fall favorites from the food truck.
